Description

Desiccant breather filter, also known as desiccant air breather, is a multi‑functional venting filtration component mounted on hydraulic reservoirs, gearboxes, transformer tanks and fluid storage tanks.

When internal temperature rises/falls or liquid level fluctuates, the tank “breathes” and exchanges air with ambient environment. This unit replaces ordinary simple vent caps, to treat incoming air before it enters equipment interior.

Working Principle

Incoming outside air firstly goes through particulate filter media (typically 2‑3 μm rating) to trap dust and solid particles. Then air flows through color‑indicating silica‑gel desiccant beads to adsorb water vapor. Only clean and dry air is allowed into the tank headspace.

Silica gel changes color (blue to pink) when moisture‑saturated, offering visual reminder for element replacement or regeneration. Many versions integrate anti‑oil‑mist baffles and check‑valve structure to extend service life.
